Three best Real Madrid players so far this season 2019/2020
Dec 27, 2019
While the 2018/2019 season was a complete bust for most players, the 2019/2020 season has seen the resurgence of many of them. Zidane has managed to raise the performance of his team by getting the core of his three Champions League winning players perform at their best once again. It took him some time. The beginning of this season was a bit rough. Things didn't fall into place right away. Slowly but surely he worked his magic and with a few tweaks, he has started to steer the team in the right direction.
Casemiro and Kroos are two players who deserve mention when we talk about the best performing Real Madrid players of the 2019/2020 season so far. Casemiro has been a rock in front of the defense and has put in incredible numbers. He has a team high of 3.8 tackles and 2.2 interceptions per game. Kroos is another player who has had a resurgence this season. He is not only one of the best passers in the game but also the one who dictates the tempo during the match. He also leads the team with 93.3% passing accuracy and 2.4 key passes per game.
Karim Benzema is probably the easiest of the picks. He has been immense for Real Madrid this past two seasons. He is the team's highest scorer with 12 goals in 16 matches. Apart from his goal-scoring prowess, he is also very important in leading the team offensively and creating chances. He leads the team with 5 assists and second only to Kroos with 2.1 key passes per game. Many people have complained about the lack of minutes for Jovic and it might be true that he needs to be in the team if Real Madrid to get better in front of the goal. However, with the form Benzema is in, the argument becomes more about how Zidane can fit in Jovic alongside Benzema rather than in place of Benzema.
Fede has become a fan favorite in a very short time. At just 21 he has shown how important he is to the team and cemented his place in the starting eleven. His energy to move up and down the field and intelligence to great off the ball decisions has helped to team become more formidable. He brings balance to the team that was missing last season and the aging Luka Modric can no longer provide on a consistent basis. He also has 2 goals and 2 assists to his name in the league so far. Fede Valverde is a star in the making and his future looks bright.
This is probably to least obvious of the three and most likely a divisive pick for the best three players of the season. However, Thibaut Courtois has been nothing sort of brilliant in the goal for the majority of this season. He has been getting a lot of stick from fans and critics alike since his move to the Bernabeu. He had a rough time adapting to the team last season and his performances were below average for the majority of the games. Considering that he was replacing a fan favorite Keylor Navas also didn't help his case. This season too started a bit patchy but Courtois soon turned it around with some confident performances. His confidence showed in the game against Athletic Club when he commandingly came out almost every crosses in the penalty box. He has also made some outstanding saves and even created that equalizing goal against Valencia with a towering header in the dying minutes. Courtois has a save percentage of 75.7 which is only second to Unai Simon in the league.
