Real Madrid celebrating against Mallorca

Real Madrid made it four wins in a row since the return of La Liga with a 2-0 win against Mallorca.


Starting XI: Thibaut Courtois, Dani Carvajal, Sergio Ramos (C), Raphael Varane, Ferland Mendy, Fede Valverde, Luka Modric, Vinicius Junior, Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard, Karim Benzema


There is never a dull moment when Madridistas see the starting eleven for a new matchday. And Zinedine Zidane did not disappoint against Mallorca. The Frenchman decided to rotate his squad and included more surprises on the team sheet.

Gareth Bale started on the right. Eden Hazard and Vinicius Junior played together for the first time this season. Luka Modric and Valverde slotted in the double pivot in place of the suspended Casemiro and rested Toni Kroos.


First Half


1-15 minutes

Real Madrid took a few minutes to settle in their 4-2-2-2 formation, and the sixth minute had their first effort at goal. Mendy crosses the ball to Karim Benzema, who controls the ball with his chest and shoots at goal. His shot got saved by the goalkeeper.

Right after, Bale hits a stinger from outside the box, and goalkeeper makes another diving save. On the other end, Baba smashes one from a distance, but Thibaut Courtois makes one of the saves of the season to keep the score at nil-nil.


16-30 minutes

Los Blancos take the lead in the 20th minute when Modric sends a through ball to Vinicius Junior. The Brazillian beautifully chips the ball over the Mallorca goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

A few minutes later, Vinicius sent through on goal, this time by Benzema. The young winger chips the ball over the goalkeeper once again, but the ball hits the crossbar and out.


30-45 minutes

Both teams struggled to open up any chances in the last 15 minutes. Mallorca did well to overrun the Merengues' midfield, but they were not able to create any danger in the attacking front. Los Blancos struggled to build control in the game without Toni Kroos on the field.


Halftime (Real Madrid 1 - 0 Mallorca)


Second Half


46-60 minutes

Real Madrid gets a free-kick at the edge of the penalty box. Sergio Ramos stepped up to take it. He curls one right into the top left corner giving Los Blancos a two-goal lead.

Mallorca finds themselves in an attacking position. Budimir heads the ball towards goal following Lago Junior's cross, but Courtois makes a comfortable save.


61-75 minutes

Kroos entered the pitch replacing Hazard in the 61st minute. The Royal Whites needed the addition in the midfield to regain some control of the game. Mallorca had switched to a 4-1-4-1 formation creating a numerical advantage in the center of the park. Marco Asensio and Isco joined the party replacing Bale and Modric.


76-90 minutes

Zidane made his final substitution in the 82nd minute bringing in Brahim Diaz and Mariano. Brahim found some space right outside the box and shot at goal. Reina made a diving save down to his left. The introduction of Isco helped the Merengues manage the game and cruise to victory.


Final Score (Real Madrid 2 - 0 Mallorca)


Real Madrid won the match with two highlights worthy goal from Vinicius and Ramos. Los Blancos struggled to control the midfield in the absence of Kroos for the majority of the game, but Zidane's setup offered a lot of danger in attack.

The Royal Whites Manager brought in Kroos and Isco in the second half to manage the game, and the job was well done. Real Madrid now needs to win seven remaining games to guarantee winning La Liga.


Three Stars of the Match


Vinicius Junior: Vinicius is making a regular appearance in this section of the blog. His performance keeps improving every game, and he is the most dangerous attacking outlet for Los Blancos. He scored a brilliant goal and was unfortunate to have missed out on a second.


Sergio Ramos: There is nothing that El Capitan cannot do. He worked hard on the defensive side and also bagged himself a fantastic goal from a free-kick.


Luka Modric: The Croatian was vital for Real Madrid in the absence of Toni Kroos in the starting lineup. He also grabbed an assist for Vinicius' goal that gave the Merengues the lead.
